There is a scrollbar option for viewing in sample or list mode. The updated design of the app looks good and its much easier to see all the fonts now, except theres no scrollbar. And FontExplorer 5 for instance relies on the Apple Symbols font for the rating stars, iTunes uses an Asian font for showing the rating stars. Some of the Asian / Hebrew fonts are required for the system. If this still doesn't work, you might need to try a bigger hammer-deleting your OSX font cache.
